College

Good Morning Earth's People,

     What college do you want to attend? Why do you want to attend it? Is it a university or a community college? Do you feel like it will push you to be your best?

These are the things that I considered when I was looking up colleges:

• university
• strict
• hard to get accepted
• going to push me to try my hardest
• law or education school

Out of all of those requirements, I want to attend Harvard Law School and Harvard School of Education. I decided on this school by all of those requirements, I have always wanted to attend Harvard since the 4th grade, I'm only in 6th now. But my current present, will most definitely help me with my future, so I try now to get good grades on everything so that I can achieve my dream.

       People complain about very small things, when people out here everyday are out here starving and begging for change. They do not appreciate the things that they already have. The quote "You won't appreciate something until it is gone." is very true and correct. Many people think about the things that they don't have rather than the things that they do have. I do that sometimes also - but not very often, I appreciate what my relatives provide for me now- even though I want more, I still appreciate what I have now.

           As we all know, these were all young black men, killed and executed by an white officer. Michael Brown was just shot and killed yesterday in Ferguson, MO. We do not know the full story yet. But the damage that they are doing in Ferguson is unnecessary, Michael would not want all that to happen, he just wants JUSTICE ! The breaking in stores and stealing is most definitely unnecessary. Like what is all this chaos solving - nothing! Just showing that black people are acting crazy. No justice will be served just because you burned down QuikTrip, no justice will be served just because you broke into a beauty supply and stole all the weave. And a lot of those stores were owned by blacks, so tell me what are you accomplishing in doing those things. Nothing, right. 

                    Now, not too many people know about Oscar Grant. Here is the story:

Oscar Grant III was fatally shot by BART Police officer Johannes Mehserle in Oakland, California, United States, in the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2009.Responding to reports of a fight on a crowded Bay Area Rapid Transit train returning from San Francisco, BART Police officers detained Grant and several other passengers on the platform at the Fruitvale BART Station. Officer Johannes Mehserle and another officer were restraining Grant, who was lying face down and allegedly resisting arrest. Officer Mehserle stood and, according to his attorney, said: "Get back, I'm gonna Tase him."Then Mehserle drew his gun and shot Grant once in the back. During his court testimony, Mehserle said that Grant then exclaimed, "You shot me!" Grant was unarmed; he was pronounced dead the next morning at Highland Hospital in Oakland.

                  The shooting has been variously labeled an involuntary manslaughter and a summary execution. On January 30, 2010, Alameda County prosecutors charged Mehserle with murder for the shooting. He resigned his position and pleaded not guilty. The trial began on June 10, 2010. Michael Rains, Mehserle's criminal defense attorney, argued that Mehserle mistakenly shot Grant with his pistol, intending to use his Taser when he saw Grant reaching for his waistband.Pretrial filings argue that his client did not commit first-degree murder and asked a Los Angeles judge to instruct the jury to limit its deliberations to either second-degree murder or acquittal.

On July 8, 2010, the jury returned its verdict: Mehserle was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and not guilty of second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.Initial protests against the ruling were peacefully organized; looting, arson, destruction of property, and small riots broke out after dark. Nearly 80 people were eventually arrested.
                 

                                There is now a movie called "Fruitvale Station" . And it is the best movie in the world, and guess what. I actually cried.

                                                           Role Models 
                                     

                              My first role model is Sharon Draper. She is a professional educator and award winning writer. She was the 1977  National Teacher of The Year. She won the Coretta Scott-King Award 5 times. She is also the New York Times bestselling author. Sharon was born April 11, 1952, she is currently 62 years old. Sharon went to Pepperdine University. 









                       My second role model is Sharon Flake. Sharon Flake is an American writer of young adult literature. She has lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her daughter for many years. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in English. She was born December 24, 1955. Sharon attended Simon Gratz High School and University of Pittsburgh. 

                     

My third role model is my 4th grade teacher Chrissie Messina. She is my favorite teacher in the whole wide world. She is amazing, I can talk to her about anything. She is going to college to become a counselor. SHE IS THE BEST! 

                             Langston Hughes 

       James Mercer Langston Hughes known by his famous name Langston Hughes, was a poet, born February 1, 1902 in Joplin Missouri. He died May 22, 1967 in New York City. Langston won many rewards for his poems. Hughes colleges were Lincoln University and Columbia University. 

      When you think of Langston Hughes, you think of Maya Angelou. They are both twentieth century poets. They did not let their humble beginnings decide their fate.While both poets shared a mutual goal to achieve racial equality, Angelou was equally interested about ending gender inequality and empowering women. 

      My favorite poem by Langston Hughes is I Am America, when I was in 5th grade my entire grade had to memorize it and recite it at our black history program. I enjoy reading Langston Hughes because his poems are knowledgeable and enjoying. I also like Langston's poems because I enjoy reading about slavery and many of his poems are about slavery. 

                                                         Maya Angelou 

                Maya Angelou was an African American poet, dancer, actress, and singer. She published 7 autobiographies, three book of essays, and several books of poetry. Maya was born April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, MO. She died recently on May 28, 2014 in Winston-Salem, NC. She had one sun, Guy Johnson. She had two husbands (Paul du Feu and Enistasious Tosh Angelos). 

              My favorite poem by Maya Angelou is Still I Rise. I really love the sass in the poem. I love the determination and courage. Maya Angelou is one of my role models.

  What was my favorite class in summer school ?

         My favorite class in summer school would be...... Mrs. Foster- Language Arts. She is my favorite class because I love writing, and we do a lot of writing in her class.

     Also because Mrs. Foster is very nice and I love her personality. She will not lie to you, she will tell you what she really thinks and whats on her mind. She is not sneaky and she is very gifted and talented with her words. She is neat and I love Mrs. Foster, I can tell that she will be one of those teachers that I will have a special bond with. 

        My other favorite class is Mrs. Hill. I love typing and reading, and we do a lot of that in her class. And now I am also addicted to blogging, I think it is very neat. Blogging is something that I now do daily. Maybe you should start a blog! 

     Mrs. Hill is very kind and and nice. I can also tell that me and Mrs. Hill will have a close bond.
